Thank you. Two copies of your book arrived yesterday. I recall reading the samples on-line and I was glued to the computer until I couldn't get any more. You've done a great job in writing this book, and provided an important service for women everywhere.

I received your book, flyers and coaster yesterday. I started to read the book and left it in the office overnight for one reason, I can't put it down.

I did have to laugh though when I read you named the dog Murphy. My dog's name if Murfee, as you can see I spell it different. I'm sure I'll be finished this weekend with the book.

People of compassion are always driven to make something positive out of negative life events. It is very healing.

Hi Sharon,

I just wanted to thank you for sharing your experience in "Who's Watching Your Drink". The courage and strength you must have inside is amazing! As a mother of 3 children, 2 of which are young female adults I have been enlightened as to helping you get the word out about the Date Rape Drug.

My friend Kelly gave me a copy of your book, and I could not put it down. I am going to pass the book around to my family, friends, their friends, etc. This was an incredible story and we are thankful you had the determination to re-live this for all to learn by!!

Sharon,
Congratulations on an excellent website. I came across it whilst searching for information on this topic for a personal project, which sadly was inspired by a friend of mine who also had her drink spiked over here in London. Worryingly it seems like drugging drinks is just as common over here as it is on your side of the ocean.

Many thanks for the site and great information, and again congratulation!

Hi Sharon,

For the first time since this happened to me, I don't feel alone ! THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU !!! xOx
Your kind words and offer of support have lifted my spirits , and I truly appreciate the time you took to reply to my e-mail.

As I said in my previous mail, I have hit one dead end after another.
I have been tossed backwards and forwards, only to return to the point where I began in the first place !

Out of all the "support & outreach programs" that I have contacted, only one got back to me....a week later, with a rude, abrasive, and demeaning toned e-mail, informing me that I was basically lying, was hysterical & had not given enough detailed and factual information ???!!! I obviously didn't even bother with a response because I was so hurt and angry !

I even registered with www.rape.co.za to seek help, but my first impression was shock, as their mail that they sent with my confirmation password & username, had the heading : "WELCOME TO RAPE" ........can you believe it !
Anyway, I pursued the site and posted a plea for some advise ?..........I posted my story on the 21st November, and on the 29th Nov I got a short reply from another user who suggested that I go to the media (I was told not to as it could and would interfere with my Court Case). Since then, nothing ?, I don't think that this site gets a lot of hits ?, or the mediators just don't care ?...it could possibly be the very fact that their welcoming note is off putting !

And then you came along, just in time !

Thank you for the info, articles, and your offer to fly over to support me in Court....BUT, here in SA, the "Legal System", is not exactly like what we watch on TV ! Actually it's a joke, and I must admit that I'm almost certain that my case wont even be called on Wednesday & even if it is, I have prepare myself for this "man ???" to get off due to "Lack of Evidence" & basically my word against his (he says that I'm lying and nothing happened !).

Also, as far as what I have encountered with dealing with "The System", so far, is that, "They" just don't care ! ..........Too many cases, Too little time ?!!
I have been so badly mistreated, kept in the dark, and given the run around by everyone, that I'm prepared for the worst. I mean, my Investigating Officer, cant even speak English properly, and I know for a fact that my case hasn't been investigated properly or at all !

So with regards to your coming over, Thank-You but it will be fruitless.

I have however, been more and more motivated to do something about Awareness & Support for "Drug-Facilitated Rape" here in SA. After my Court Case(should it go ahead and happen in my lifetime ?), I would like to set up a site, that offers advise and a direct course of action and information that is not the same "cut and paste" info, that I have found on all the local sites. Also it should be user friendly, maintained and run by staff who are compassionate, helpful and who can speak English !!! I would be great to be able to link it to yours and work inconjunction ?

BUT, first things first..... I'm trying to get ready for Wednesday morning and seeing "him" again.....I've been told not to cry and get upset as it could postponed the Case ?

I will keep you informed and let you know what happens.
***Please Thank your staff for me ,for their words of encouragement xOx

PS: You are an Angel ! ....my Angel !

Hi Sharon,

Thank you so much for sending "Who's Watching Your Drink" to me.

I read your book from cover to cover the first day I received it - I could not put it down. It was very helpful to read about someone who has been through a similar experience, but it also helped me in some way to come to an acceptance that I am not to blame for what my rapist did to me.

Thanks so much again – I’m trying to spur a UK organisation on to campaign for more rights for drug-rape victims. A survey has just come out in the UK that a third of those interviewed think a woman is to blame or contributed to her own rape. Shortly following this, a Judge directed a jury to find a rapist not-guilty, on account that the woman could not remember if she had given consent or not (she was extremely drunk and sometimes unconsciousness I believe). It’s an absolute disgrace the way we are perceived and treated as victims of this crime, by the general public, authorities and friends. I hope to one day use my experience to help others.

Thank you so much for your kind support and for sending me your brilliant book!

Hi Sharon,

Thank you so much for talking to me today - you're the only person I've spoken to that understands and you said all the things I recall feeling / not feeling that night. At last, I know I'm not going mad!!!

The police in the UK only seem to be aware of Rohypnol, and don't seem to have a clue what the effects of GHB are, and the rape crisis center in Manchester said 'we're not trained to know what each drug does'. The police insinuated I was making it up because when I recalled it I remembered it as me 'letting him' do it to me. I couldn't explain this before now - I understand that I wasn't there to let him do anything. I know I would have drop kicked his ass if I was! There's just little or no support for women, but plenty for people like drug-abusers etc. I'm appalled at how I've been treated and how little support there is for the victims of this horrific and traumatic crime. The police here demanded I make a video statement before they would test my blood / take forensics from my clothes. At the time I was in deep shock and couldn't face the prospect of making a decision re a Court case. The Roofie Foundation is a UK drug rape charity whom I also sought advice from after my attack. They supposedly deal with all types of drug rape, yet they told me that my soft drink could not be drugged as the drugs needed alcohol to make them work! I knew something was wrong, but I just couldn't find any information from anyone. I know that someday when I feel strong again I will do something about this, and try to help other women.

You've been so kind, and I wanted you to know that our conversation has already really helped me.
I look forward to receiving information and reading your book. I hope to speak to you again in the future! Thanks again, you're a star!

Sharon:

Interesting web site. I lecture to student athletes at high school, NCAA, and the NBA and discuss how athletes can be compromised and blackmailed related to sports betting and points shaving. I also discuss the facts of watching their drinks when out in a social group. You are right on the mark with some of your info.

Take care!!

Dear Sharon, my friend...

I just finished your book. WOW! First of all I want to give you a big hug for being the wonderful person you are. So strong, warm hearted and courageous.

Because of you , there are women out there who now have someone to turn, to confide in, and trust, as they rebuild their lives step by step.

Because of you, victims can face their fears, and begin the road to recovery, never having to go it alone, because they now have you.

I, for one am proud to know you, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being such a survivor that can make a difference, and is wiling to do so.

Big Hugs,
Kelly
